Parking used to be a line item nobody tracked. Now a few paid nights on the road plus a spot for the truck at home can run into hundreds of dollars a month. This truck parking cost calculator adds it up: paid nights out, the home-base spot and the result in cents per mile, so you can see what parking really costs your business.
Monthly semi truck parking rates: what lots post
There is no national price list. Lots set their own prices and change them often, so the only honest numbers are the ones a provider posts, with a date. As one snapshot, truck and trailer listings on Truck Parking Club in Dallas posted $17 to $32 per day, $75 to $180 per week and $170 to $350 per month. That is one city on one day, not an average, and not every listing allows sleeping on site.

On the road, most truck stop parking is still free. Some lots are gated: at TA locations with gates, the posted fee at standard sites is $25, waived with a $30 qualifying purchase or a reservation. TA does not publish a Reserve-It price; you see it when you book.

How it is calculated
Four parts, all from your inputs:
- Paid nights: paid nights times your average price per night.
- Home base: a monthly spot costs its monthly price. Paying by the day costs the daily price times the days you are home, which is the days in the month minus your nights out.
- Monthly and yearly: paid nights plus home base, then times 12.
- Per mile: the monthly total divided by the miles you ran.
It also prices two comparisons: the month if every night out were paid, which shows what your free nights are worth, and monthly against daily at home, with the break-even number of days.
What a good result and a bad result look like
A good result keeps parking to a few cents a mile, with paid nights saved for the places that need them: a big metro before an early appointment, or a stretch where the lots fill by dark.
A bad result is a monthly spot you rarely use, or paid nights that come from running out of hours in the wrong place. The first is a pricing fix: switch to daily or find a cheaper yard. The second is a planning fix. When the clock runs out near a full lot, you pay whatever is open. Our guide to the truck parking shortage explains why some corridors fill so early, and what truck parking costs covers reserved, gated and monthly options in more depth.
Where parking fits in your numbers
Parking belongs in your operating costs next to fuel and tolls. Carry the per-mile figure into the trucking cost per mile calculator, and price your next fill-up with the semi truck fill-up cost calculator while you are at it.
The cheapest night is the free one you reach legally with time to spare. That is a planning job, and it is part of what our dispatchers do: they look at your hours before offering a load and aim each day to end near free, legal parking. We cannot reserve parking or promise a space, and you still say yes or no to every load. See how it works for owner operators, or start your application.
Questions about this calculator
How much does monthly semi truck parking cost?
It depends heavily on the city and the lot. As one dated example, truck and trailer listings on Truck Parking Club in Dallas ranged from $170 to $350 a month in October 2026. Bigger metros, secured lots and paved yards with lights and cameras usually cost more. Get two or three quotes near home and enter the real number in the calculator.
Is monthly truck parking cheaper than paying by the day?
Only if you are home enough. Divide the monthly price by the daily price to get your break-even: with a $250 monthly spot and a $25 daily rate, the monthly spot wins from 10 days at home. A driver who is out three weeks at a time may pay less by the day. The calculator works out both and shows the cheaper one.
Do truck stops charge for parking?
Most truck stop parking is free on a first-come basis, but not all of it. Some lots are gated: at TA, standard gated locations post a $25 fee, with the first 2 hours free and the fee waived with a $30 qualifying purchase or a reservation. Reserved spaces at the big chains are a separate purchase, priced at booking.
Should parking go in my cost per mile?
Yes. Parking is a real operating cost, like tolls or scale tickets, and it is easy to forget because it comes in small amounts. Take the monthly total, divide by the miles you ran that month, and add the cents to your cost per mile. The calculator does that math when you enter your miles.
